Valley Forge Park at Sunrise

Over the years, I’ve developed a deep affection for multi-generational family sessions. I love to capture moments between grandparents and their grandchildren. I’m sure it has something to do with how close I was with my grandmother and how much I treasure the photos of us together. I always preach about parents getting in the photos, but the same applies to grandparents.

When someone contacts me for a session like this, I encourage them to consider doing at least part of the session at home. There is an ease at home that can’t be fully translated to a park setting. However, when doing photos at a park, this is how to do it! Sunrise – check. Fun location to explore – check. Toys, bubbles, necklaces – check, check, check. If all of these elements are involved, I’m a-ok with doing any session completely outdoors.

This brave family agreed to meet me just before sunrise. Before 7am. I am not a morning person, so I very much relate to not wanting to get up and be photo ready this early for pretty much anything. But I’m telling you, the golden light of sunrise or sunset just can’t be recreated at any other time. It’s magic. They also brought along all sorts of fun things for the kids to play with – another trick for bringing the ease of an indoor session to the outdoors. In the end, it all came together to make for a pretty magical shoot.

As an aside, this session is another oldie that I found in my blog cue just waiting to be published. I have no idea what took me so long to share, but it’s just over a year old and it’s fun to think about how much all these kids have probably changed in that time.
