In just over a month, I’ll be photographing my brother’s wedding! I’m also IN the wedding, and Florence is the flower girl. Soooo…that’s kind of stressful. I can’t say that I’ve ever photographed a wedding in which I was also a participant, so it should be quite an adventure.
Luckily, he’s marrying the greatest girl ever. Chrissy fits right into our family perfectly and we all love her. We could not be happier for them both and I am super excited to help them celebrate AND to help to capture their special day.
While they were staying with us over the holidays, visiting from Brooklyn, we went out and freezed our behinds off to get a few engagement photos. Note: It was below freezing and the girl is wearing a short sleeved dress and laying on a bed of dried, stabby grass. That is a team player there. :-)
These are a few of my favorites from their shoot. Also, so many more sessions will be appearing on the blog in the coming weeks! I’ve been on a little bit of a Winter hiatus, but I’m making my way back…starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel of this cold, COLD Winter and excited to start sharing some sessions that haven’t made it to the blog yet!
And this awesome photo of Patrick and I from Disney World, just because. :-)
Today, Flo and I went out to “enjoy” the snow. We walked the few blocks to the local park. Or rather, we alternated between me carrying Florence like a limp sack of potatoes while the enormous sled bounced behind us, and me pulling the sled (or “boat” as she called it) while she sat in it and experienced mixed success at staying in an upright position. From there, it was mostly downhill (no pun intended…haha). She did not want to ride the sled around on hills or flat ground, she did not want to touch the snow in any way, and she did not seem able to walk in all the snow gear that she was wearing. For some unknown reason, she also did not want to leave. After about ten minutes, I called it. The trip home involved a mix of me carrying Florence like a limp sack of potatoes while the enormous sled bounced behind us, and me pulling the sled while she laid on her back in the sled, wailing at the top of her lungs at the injustice of the world as the snow fell on her face. Not taking a photo of that is probably one of my biggest mom fails to date. Here are the photos that I did take, of her looking rather wistful in the snow.
Once home and warm, I gave her the cookie that I had promised her on no less than twenty occasions between the park and home. Well deserved. I was also able to capture her giving me a dirty look, that I believe she learned from me and I suspect I will be seeing quite a bit in my future.
I hope everyone else has more success at playing in the snow tomorrow! (We may give it a go again too. I’m no quitter!) Stay warm!!
I have so very many beautiful sessions to share from this Fall. I have had the best time meeting new little babies and running around in piles of leaves with toddlers. But for today, while I’m still in the thick of editing, I thought I’d share a little bit of my baby’s Halloween.
My Florence is named after someone who was very special in my life, my grandmother, Florence. Not only was original Florence pretty much the best grandmother ever, she also had a very specific sense of style, which involved puffy paint, big hair, blue and purple eye shadow and wearing isotoners on shopping trips to the mall, among other things. I have a very vivid memory of her wearing her isotoners to the mall with me when I was a teenager and at the time I’m pretty sure I wanted to hide in a rack of clothing. Now I find it to be delightfully whimsical.
Some fun facts about original Flo:
-She didn’t just enjoy puffy painting her own shirts, she also decorated my brother’s sports shirts with puffy paint and even made my entire family puffy paint Christmas sweatshirts one year! We had professional family photos taken with everyone wearing their sweatshirts (Note to future clients: If you have puffy paint sweatshirts, I am totally on board with including them in your photoshoot!!!)
-The little stuffed dog is part of the costume. My grandmother had many dogs over the course of her lifetime and devoted a good deal of time to finding homes for homeless dogs. It was basically a full time, unpaid job for her.
-The Lays potato chips are also part of the costume. My grandmother was a connoisseur. No joke.
If you are wondering, Florence did not enjoy being dressed as original Florece. These photos represent more or less the entirety of the time that she allowed the wig and glasses to stay on. Still, I don’t think there will ever be a halloween costume that I like more. :-)
For your viewing pleasure…
A little side-by-side to see the resemblance. My brother and I with original Flo on the left and my Flo as original Flo on the right.
(Yes, my brother and I are wearing matching knit booties as preteens in this photo. Yes, my grandmother made them for us. She was awesome.)
Love these!
