Valley Forge Family Photo Session at Sunrise

Documentary photography doesn’t just happen at home.

Another Valley Forge family photo session that I’m in love with. I photographed this family for the first time when their oldest was a tiny little newborn. From their very first session, they have felt like old friends. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph them two more times – at a laid back documentary session at home and when their son joined the family. Every time is an absolute treat and I walk away photos that feel like tiny treasures.

This was the first session that happened outside of their home, but mom still made it feel relaxed and easy. We met at Valley Forge Park just before sunrise and they shared a picnic as the sun came up. (Hooray for clients who are morning people!) After that, we explored the grounds, played in the stream, and picked flowers to fill the mason jar that they brought along for just that purpose (genius!). I love this family and I feel so lucky to get the chance to take capture their happy spirit year after year.

Some of my favs from the morning.

Marsh Creek Family Photographer

An Early Morning at the lake

I’m currently taking a couple of photography workshops – because it’s January and that’s what I like to do in January. And in one of these workshops, we’re being asked to explore who our dream clients are. I’m lucky to have quite a long list of clients who I consider to be my dream clients. But this awesome, warm, happy, loving family right here was among the first to come to mind. And I’m not even talking about their impeccable sense of style that they bring to their sessions (although they do have that). I love them because their love for each other is so obvious when you are with them, and because they are so quick to laugh at themselves and at me. I’ve only photographed them once before but somehow feel like I’ve known them forever.

For this session, mom inquired about having her grandparents come along as well. I of course immediately said yes. And I could not be more thrilled that they were able to be a part of the session…especially since they also laughed at my jokes.

It was a beautiful sunrise on a beautiful day and I feel so lucky that this “dream” family chose me to capture their love for each other.

I had so much fun photographing this sweet, beautiful family in Chester Springs, at the Binky Lee Preserve. It was a hot spring morning and we had the prettiest cloudy skies rolling in overhead. I love that mom put so much thought into their session to make it special for their family. Everything that you see in these photos, she brought along. That includes the wagon, blankets, pillows, a homemade teepee, a wooden crate, favorite books, a whole fun bag of cars, water and snacks (let’s be honest, perhaps the most important ingredient for a perfect session), and that phenomenal skirt. Oh, and did I mention the smash cake to celebrate the little guy’s first birthday? Ya, that too. And the suspenders and balloons. I honestly just can’t handle the cuteness or get over mom’s planning. I aspire to this level of organization and preparedness.

And with all of this pre-planning, the session was still completely relaxed and fun. It was so fun to see the boys explore the fields, snuggle with mom and dad, play in the teepee and go for a ride in the wagon. I could look at their happy smiling faces all day. They were such sweethearts and it was such a pleasure to photograph them.

Valley Forge Family Photographer | Storytime in the Park

Over the Summer, we were lucky enough to have a visit from this awesome family. I have known Alissa forever, since we lived on the same hall freshman year of college. She actually met her husband, Roman, at a New Year’s Eve party at my house almost ten years ago. Three years ago, we made the trip to Italy to help celebrate their wedding. Even though I talk to Alissa by text almost daily, this visit was the first time that I got to meet the newest addition to their family, Teo! Honestly, I didn’t need to see her as a mom to imagine it though. She’s a natural, and obviously completely smitten with her charming little guy. And having officially met him now, I can attest to the fact that he is charming.

We set out to Knox Estate at Valley Forge Park early one morning of their visit for a little lifestyle photo session. It was so much fun to watch Alissa and Roman interact with Teo. I loved seeing the way they made him laugh and the way that he looked at him with his big blue eyes. Did I mention that the camera loves him? It does. Those eyes and the hair and the whole adorable package. Love.

These are a few of my favorites from our time together. I so wish they lived closer and I already can’t wait for our next visit.
