Snuggles, piggie tails & office dance parties | Bethlehem Documentary Family Photographer

About a year ago, I was spending the night at the Tripaldi’s house and I got the extreme privilege of witnessing Finley’s entire, lengthy, bed time routine. This included hide and seek, storytime (i.e., Lauri reading stories while Finley ran around her in circles), horsie rides, both given and received by Miss Fin, and finished with singing many…many songs. As much as I teased Lauri about the whacky routine, it was really charming and it was all filled with so much love. I knew right then that I needed to come back and photograph the whole thing, along with some of the other Tripaldi family goodness. This post is what came of that visit and I am just in love with these images.

As a photographer, I think an awful lot about finding my passion in photography. I absolutely love what I do and I literally can’t think of another job that I would rather have. That’s a pretty amazing thing to be able to say. So it’s always a matter of refining what I do, never changing it. When I took a step away from weddings and towards families, I felt like I got closer and now I feel like I have fallen head over heels in love with photography all over again. This shoot just makes me so very happy. Photographing families doing all the little sweet and funny and crazy things that families do in their own homes makes me excited about being a photographer again.

So, that brings me to some news that I am very, very, VERY excited to announce, the introduction of the Katie McMenamin Photography Storybook Session! These sessions are filled with real family moments … real cuddles, smiles and office dance parties. ;-) For this year, when you book a Storybook Session, you receive the digital files and an album of the best images from your session. How exciting is that?! If you want more information or pricing or would like to book a session, contact me at katie[at]kmcmenamin.com. Let’s talk about what special moments I can capture for your family. :-)

Ice Cream & Fire Engines | Manayunk Family Photography

We managed to work this session in just before this family left Philadelphia for The Netherlands. How fun is that? They were living in Manayunk at the time, so we decided to do the shoot down on Main Street and by the Canal. Since Dad is in the Coast Guard, working some water into the session only seemed appropriate. Both kids were so happy and smiley, it was a pleasure photographing them. Plus I don’t think it hurt that we ended with some ice cream and a quick visit to the fire station. :-)

Here are some of my favorites!

Full of faces! | Bethlehem Lifestyle Family Session

I just love photographing Lauri and her family any time they’ll let me (poor Mikey has been forced to put up with far more photo sessions than I think he’d care for, although thankfully he’s a good sport about it). Miss Fin makes the best faces. I have been photographing her since she was a tiny babe and I can’t believe what a little person she’s suddenly become. She’s full of opinions – as most 2 year olds are – and talks up a storm and makes my job so much fun.

This particular session, we headed to downtown Bethlehem for some laid back hanging out. We strolled down Main Street, chased a band up the block, hugged a pumpkin, sang itsy bitsy spider and just generally had a fun afternoon. Here are a whole bunch of my favorites. :-)

Do you see what I mean about the faces?! The best!

Derek Turns 1 | West Chester Event Photographer

Last year, Derek turned one and I was lucky enough to join his MANY friends and family to capture the event. It was like a wonderland for the kids with a bouncy castle, music and dancing, games and of course, cake. It was so much fun for me to capture all the happy little faces.

We started out with a few portraits of the birthday boy.

As I arrived, Derek’s parents and grandparents were still busily setting up since there were torrential downpours the night before, into the morning. Everything got done though and the Airport theme was adorable. I loved that Derek Airlines cupcake cake!

I don’t think there are too many kids that don’t love bouncy castles.

The entertainment was the big hit of the day though. The kids and parents gravitated towards the music and games, even with everything else there was to do.

My personal favorite from when I was a kid, parachute games!

I’m so glad I could be there for such a happy day for little Derek. :-)
